Bells of St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's, London's city cathedral was designed by Sir Christopher Wren after the medieval church had been destroyed in the Great Fire of London (1666) - The first St Paul's was built in the year 604. -

During World War II, St Paul's Cathedral became an inspiration to the British people and especially the Londoners. England was constantly under attack by the German airforce's 'Blitzkrieg' attacks.( The 'Blitz').
St Paul's miraculously escaped major bomb damage whilst acres of buildings in the surrounding areas were completely destroyed by direct bombing and the aftermath of raging fires. Images of St Paul's framed by the smoke and fire of the bombing became a symbol of the nation's spirit.
